MAKE THE LIMIT WORK FOR EVERYONE

How to Set a Secret Santa Budget

The right limit is one every participant can afford without pressure. Ask your group first, then state what the amount covers.

Example limits, not requirements

These are starting points in USD; adjust for your group and local prices.

  • $10-$20: casual office swaps, handmade gifts or small treats.
  • $20-$25: a common ceiling for friends or coworkers who want more choice.
  • $25-$50: family exchanges replacing several individual gifts, only if everyone agrees.

Decide what counts

Say whether the limit includes tax, shipping and wrapping. For a remote group, include delivery or allow a separate shipping allowance so distant members do not pay more just to participate.

Tell the group clearly

Try: “Our gift limit is $25 including tax, before shipping. Participation is optional. Gifts should arrive by December 18.” The host can enter the amount and currency in the room settings before drawing.

Common questions

What is a normal Secret Santa price limit?

Many groups choose around $20-$25, but the fair amount depends on participants. Ask privately before setting a limit.

Should shipping count toward the budget?

Decide together and say so in the invitation. For a remote group, a separate shipping allowance can keep the gift value fair.
